Authore: ThomasUpdate:Mar 17,2025

LEGO's foray into video games began nearly 31 years ago with LEGO Fun to Build on the SEGA Pico. Since then, games built around these colorful Danish bricks and their iconic minifigures have blossomed into a genre unto themselves, largely thanks to Traveller's Tales' addictive blend of action-platforming and the countless pop-culture properties they've LEGO-fied. Narrowing down the best was a challenge, but we've compiled our Top 10 LEGO games of all time (so far!). Don't forget to check out the recently released LEGO Fortnite!

10. LEGO Island

No LEGO games list is complete without the 1997 PC classic, LEGO Island. While graphically simpler than later entries, its charm and nostalgic appeal endure. Stop an escaped convict from destroying LEGO Island, brick by brick! The diverse character classes and surprisingly open world make for a fun, engaging, and comforting experience. Finding a copy might be tricky, but the journey to LEGO Island is well worth it – just watch out for the Brickster!

9. LEGO The Lord of the Rings

LEGO The Lord of the Rings cleverly uses audio from the movies, creating a surprisingly effective and hilarious blend. Witness Boromir's death scene punctuated by banana attacks – a uniquely silly yet respectful reimagining. The game boasts a large roster, including book characters like Tom Bombadil, alongside the puzzles and action we expect from a LEGO game. It's a strong contender, even if not quite top of the list.

8. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Surprisingly well-executed, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures adapts the trilogy's playful spirit into a family-friendly LEGO experience. Building upon the LEGO Star Wars formula, it emphasizes puzzles and exploration alongside combat. The gameplay is a significant improvement over earlier LEGO Star Wars titles, and local co-op is a blast. Even nearly 15 years later, it remains a modern classic.

7. LEGO DC Super-Villains

LEGO games excel at reimagining darker themes in a kid-friendly way. LEGO DC Super-Villains is a rare example of a family-friendly game where you play as the villains. The game's charm and Traveller's Tales' style make even the rogues gallery endearing. The inclusion of a customizable character adds a creative layer, complementing the licensed characters.

6. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes introduced open-world gameplay to the LEGO franchise, featuring a vast Gotham City. While later open worlds were improved, the charm of LEGO Gotham remains undeniable. A significant improvement over the original, it's a high point in the LEGO Batman series (unlike LEGO Batman 3!). The roster is packed with beloved and lesser-known DC characters, appealing to both Batman and broader comic fans.
