Pokémon TCG Sees Trainer's Pokémon Return in 2025

The Pokémon Company International made a splash at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships with exciting announcements for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). Notably, the return of beloved classic mechanics is on the horizon for 2025.

Trainer's Pokémon and Team Rocket Cards Return

Get ready for the comeback of "Trainer's Pokémon" cards! A teaser trailer showcased fan-favorite trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N, alongside their signature Pokémon: Lillie's Clefairy ex, Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex, N's Zoroark ex, and N's Reshiram. These cards, a hallmark of the early TCG, featured unique artwork and abilities tied to specific trainers.

The trailer also dropped a significant hint: Mewtwo alongside the iconic Team Rocket symbol. This fuels speculation about a Team Rocket-themed set, potentially reviving the popular Dark Pokémon mechanic—aggressive, alternative versions of familiar Pokémon associated with the villainous team. While unconfirmed, rumors, including Japanese retailer listings and a trademark filing ("The Glory of Team Rocket"), suggest a Team Rocket expansion is imminent.

Paradise Dragona Set Debuts

The 2024 World Championships also offered a sneak peek at the upcoming Paradise Dragona set. According to PokeBeach, initial reveals include Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex. This Japanese subset, focused on Dragon-type Pokémon, is slated for a November 2024 English release as part of the Surging Sparks set.

Current TCG Updates

The Pokémon TCG is currently concluding its Kitikami chapter with the release of Shrouded Fable this month. This set boasts 99 cards: 64 standard cards and 35 secret rare cards. With these exciting developments and the promised return of classic elements, the future of the Pokémon TCG looks incredibly promising.
