Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising playable character: Jar Jar Binks. A new trailer showcases Binks wielding a large staff in action-packed gameplay.
This isn't the only new addition to the 2000 classic. Aspyr is expanding the roster significantly, with ten new playable characters revealed so far, and more promised. The updated Jedi Power Battles boasts features like customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support, alongside this expanded character selection. The nostalgic appeal of the original game is enhanced by these additions.
While some may have envisioned a "Darth Jar Jar" scenario with a red lightsaber, the trailer shows Binks utilizing a staff and his characteristically chaotic voice lines. His inclusion, alongside other new characters like a Rodian, Flame Droid, Gungan Guard, Destroyer Droid, Ishi Tib, Rifle Droid, Staff Tusken Raider, Weequay, and Mercenary, significantly expands gameplay options.
The game's launch is set for January 23rd, allowing players to experience these new characters firsthand. Pre-orders are currently available. Aspyr's previous work updating classic Star Wars titles, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers hope for a successful and satisfying reimagining of Jedi Power Battles for modern audiences.
