Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map. However, this location was inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here's a detailed guide on how to access the Deep Woods and find Caldarus within Fields of Mistria.

How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and use the new Dragon’s Breath spell to burn through the vines that conceal the entrance. First, you'll need to place four specific items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. While the first three items can be found between floors 50 and 59, obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To help Balor acquire the Sealing Scroll, you must leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
Once you've met these requirements, speak to Balor again, and he'll inform you that the item will be ready the next day. After collecting the scroll, you can complete the offering at the altar.
Typically, breaking magic seals results in a message from the mysterious mines Priestess, signaling the unlocking of a new biome. However, this time, the Priestess warns you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health dwindles, Caldarus appears in his human form, rescuing you and retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus then requests that you find him at his temple and grants you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This spell not only clears the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance but can also be used to uncover other hidden areas on the map. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it in front of the blocked entrance, permanently unlocking the Deep Woods and other areas.

How To Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus inside his temple within the Deep Woods. The temple is situated north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access the area, and you'll see Caldarus’ exact location marked like other NPCs, in the northeast corner.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to clear a stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple, where Caldarus awaits inside.
Once the Deep Woods area is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the Deep Woods and visit Caldarus. Teleportation costs just 10 Essence, making it a convenient way to save time compared to traveling on foot or horseback.
You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, albeit in spirit.
