Amazon's highly anticipated God of War TV series, based on the iconic 2018 video game, is already set for two seasons even before its premiere. This exciting news comes from the show's new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who stepped in after the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current projects. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."
Despite not being a seasoned gamer himself, Moore humorously recounted his attempts at gaming, mentioning classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. "I took a stab at it, but the controllers threw me. 'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he quipped, highlighting his challenges with modern gaming controls.
Moore's role in the God of War series extends beyond showrunning; he is also serving as a writer and executive producer. His extensive experience includes working on beloved shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, as well as being the showrunner for the critically acclaimed 2000s revival of Battlestar Galactica.
While the previous team saw some changes, Sony's Cory Barlog, a key figure in the God of War franchise, remains involved as an executive producer. Although details about the series are still sparse, it is confirmed that the show will be based on the 2018 God of War game.
Amazon's track record with video game adaptations, such as the successful renewals of the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a promising future for the God of War series on their streaming platform.
