Introducing Agadon the Hunter, a formidable new adversary set to replace the Marauder in the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages. Unlike an upgraded version of the Marauder, Agadon brings a fresh challenge to the battlefield. This boss merges characteristics from multiple bosses, showcasing the ability to dodge, evade, and even deflect the Doom Slayer's projectiles. Players will face a variety of combo attacks, necessitating the use of a sawtooth shield, drawing inspiration from the acclaimed game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The confrontation with Agadon is designed to be the ultimate test of the skills players have honed throughout the game, serving as a climactic final exam.
The developers have chosen to maintain the concept of a challenging boss, confident that players are prepared for an elevated challenge. The previous issue with the Marauder wasn't the difficulty itself but rather how it was presented and explained. Many mechanics needed to defeat the Marauder were not introduced earlier in the campaign, leading to frustration among players due to the sudden shift in gameplay dynamics. To address this, the developers are focusing on a smoother integration of mechanics and better preparation for players.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is slated for release on May 15, 2025, and will be available on current-generation consoles (PS5, Xbox Series) and PC via Steam.
