The Yellow Orb is found in a town initially designated as "???" on the map – Merchantburg. The town's name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. To get the orb, you must establish and develop this village.
Where to Find Merchantburg (???) in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), sail to the northeast corner of the map to find Merchantburg. The quest marker will appear if you have them enabled.
When to Visit Merchantburg
While orb collection order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early is recommended. Its growth takes time, so establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.
How to Get the Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Establishing Merchantburg:
- Hire a Merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.
- At Merchantburg (???), enter the building. Speak to the old man to initiate town establishment. Your merchant will leave your party and start the town. The town's name will now be revealed.
Returning to Merchantburg:
Merchantburg grows through five stages. You'll receive notifications to revisit after each growth phase. The final stage involves a large cabaret. Beware of the security guard outside – they'll try to overcharge you.
During the fourth visit, you'll notice growing discontent towards your merchant. This signals the climax and the orb's near acquisition.
Obtaining the Yellow Orb:
Visit Merchantburg at night during the fifth visit. The merchant will be absent. A revolt has occurred, and he's imprisoned in the house south of his former residence.
Speak to the imprisoned merchant. He'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground to find the Yellow Orb.
The Yellow Orb is typically the penultimate orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
