F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Zoom onto Switch Online
Launching October 11, 2024
Nintendo's announcement confirms the October 11th release of F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax on the Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
The F-Zero franchise, Nintendo's high-octane futuristic racing series, debuted in Japan over 30 years ago (1990). A critical success, it influenced other racing franchises like SEGA's Daytona USA. F-Zero games were renowned for pushing the technological boundaries of their respective consoles, consistently ranking among the fastest racing games on SNES and beyond.
Like Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense racing, track obstacles, and competitive battles between racers' "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, is also a familiar face in the Super Smash Bros. series.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a global release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained region-locked until now, marking a 19-year wait for international players. This gap was partly attributed to the immense popularity of Nintendo's Mario Kart series, according to F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura. The October 2024 update for the Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings both titles to subscribers. Prepare for thrilling Grand Prix races, engaging story modes, and time trials.
