"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Revealed for Nintendo Switch 2"

Authore: EmeryUpdate:Apr 23,2025

It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though it brings us an unexpected twist. During today's Nintendo Direct, we discovered that Koei Tecmo is developing a new addition to the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom named Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, set to launch this winter.

PlayHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment marks the third entry in the Hyrule Warriors franchise, focusing on the ancient history explored in Tears of the Kingdom. This game features a cast of characters including Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders, telling the tale of Zelda's endeavors after she journeys back in time. In this narrative, Zelda allies with the last of the Zonai tribe, including Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his malevolent forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, from Mineru piloting her mech to Zelda wielding her magic, Rauru brandishing a distinctive sword-spear, and brief glimpses of other Sacred Stone wielders in action.

This new installment follows in the footsteps of the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the latter of which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its storytelling, which deviated slightly from the expected path of Breath of the Wild's narrative. We awarded Age of Calamity a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
