Universal Pictures has unveiled the first image of Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, starring Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon as Odysseus. Following the phenomenal success of 2023's Oppenheimer, Nolan's new movie reimagines the classic Ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. Mark your calendars: The Odyssey sets sail for theaters on July 17, 2026.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is a mythic action epic, filmed globally using groundbreaking IMAX film technology. For the first time ever, Homer’s seminal saga comes to IMAX screens, opening in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
The Odyssey chronicles Odysseus's arduous ten-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. While Universal remains tight-lipped on further details, reports suggest an all-star cast is assembling.
Matt Damon, initially rumored to be in negotiations for the lead role, returns to Universal after his acclaimed performance in Oppenheimer, which garnered seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Joining Damon, according to reports, may be Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
