Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Stellar Opening Weekend

Over 250,000 Concurrent Steam Players and Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) soared to over 250,000 concurrent Steam players by February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra proudly shared on Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its concurrent player records each day from February 4 to February 9.

  • February 4: 159,351 concurrent Steam players

KCD2 sold 1 million copies on its launch day, and with the current Steam sales estimates, it's on track to reach 2 million copies sold soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Meticulous Attention to Detail

The remarkable success of KCD2's opening weekend can be credited to Warhorse Studios' dedication to enhancing the game's realism and immersion. Building on the series' established reputation for detailed realism—such as food spoiling, clothes and armor requiring maintenance, and swords needing sharpening—KCD2 introduces even more elements to immerse players in a 15th-century medieval world.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a novel stealth mechanic where players can accumulate dirt and grime, leading to a debuff. "If you get the debuff, you know, your body odor, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also introduces "handgonnes," an accurate representation of early firearms. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons were challenging to use, had long reload times, were highly inaccurate, and posed risks to the user. He noted, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their commitment to authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing, cool, fun, and nice video game. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double-check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.

Exciting Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a robust post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged throughout 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content.

The free updates planned for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.

With its impressive opening weekend and a promising roadmap, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success, potentially setting new records along the way.
