Mai Shiranui Boosts Street Fighter 6 Popularity

Players eager to test out new fighters have flocked back to Street Fighter 6, with the addition of Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. This iconic character has brought a fresh wave of excitement to Capcom's acclaimed fighting game. As of December 31, 2024, Street Fighter 6 has impressively sold 4.4 million copies. While some fans felt the game was lacking in content, the developers have recently delighted the community with the introduction of new characters.

Mai Shiranui marks the third fighter introduced in the second season, significantly boosting the game's popularity. On the day of her release, the peak concurrent players on Steam soared to over 63,000, a stark increase from the usual 24,000 to 27,000 peak players, marking the highest since May 2024. This surge underscores the impact of Mai's addition to the roster.

Mai Shiranui is accessible to Battle Pass holders, allowing them to deepen their engagement with the game. In the World Tour mode, players can build relationships with Mai, learn her unique moves, and then put their skills to the test in the Battle Hub. Additionally, a second costume inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has been added, offering fans a nostalgic touch.

The excitement doesn't stop there. The Battle Hub now features a temporary guest, Professor Woshige, a renowned developer and legend in the fighting game community. Players can experience his presence until March 10. Alongside these updates, the game has introduced new Master League ranks and rewards, enhancing the competitive aspect of Street Fighter 6.

Capcom has also released a trailer showcasing Mai Shiranui's impressive techniques, further fueling anticipation and engagement among the game's community.
