Nvidia RTX 5090 Camping Out Despite Warning

Authore: EthanUpdate:Feb 12,2025

The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, generating significant excitement among gamers. Our RTX 5090 review hailed it as the fastest consumer graphics card, fueling intense demand. However, reports suggest extremely limited stock for both cards, with one UK retailer reporting single-digit RTX 5090 availability.

This scarcity has led to an unusual scene outside a Micro Center in Tustin, California. Days before the launch, individuals have set up tents, prompting speculation about potential scalpers aiming to capitalize on the low stock. Reddit and the Unofficial Micro Center Discord channel feature images of these campers.

One camper, responding to online discussions, clarified their intentions, stating they are purchasing the cards for personal use and not for resale. They acknowledged the time commitment but emphasized their desire to avoid inflated prices. Reports indicate a growing number of tents and individuals waiting in line.

Micro Center, in a YouTube video, advised against camping, citing the inclement January weather. Their launch strategy involves a voucher system, allocating cards on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers will not be able to choose specific models, and purchases are limited to one card per person. Despite discouraging camping, Micro Center recommends early arrival to secure a purchase.

This situation echoes past GPU launches, with YouTuber Austin Evans having previously documented similar scenes at the same Tustin location during the RTX 3070 release.
