Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, originally slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025. The delay is attributed to the need to address significant issues within the recently released Path of Exile 2.
GGG had previously committed to supporting Path of Exile 1 alongside the launch of its sequel. However, the entire Path of Exile 1 development team was reassigned to resolve Path of Exile 2's endgame problems and various launch issues, including crashes and balance concerns, before its December 2024 release.
In a video message, Jonathan Rogers, Path of Exile 2 game director and GGG co-founder, acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. He admitted that they underestimated the time required to resolve Path of Exile 2's problems and the impact of diverting the Path of Exile 1 team. The decision, while made with the intention of ensuring a smooth Path of Exile 2 launch, ultimately resulted in the indefinite postponement of the Path of Exile 1 update.
While Path of Exile 2's launch was ultimately successful, achieving a remarkable position as one of Steam's most played games, the unforeseen complications led to the current situation. Rogers expressed regret for the unexpected delay and emphasized that the team is committed to delivering the 3.26 update for Path of Exile 1, though a release date remains unconfirmed. The focus remains on Path of Exile 2 until version 0.2.0 is released and stabilized.
GGG is currently learning how to manage the simultaneous development and support of two major titles. They are working on a plan for the 3.26 update, but players can expect continued support for Path of Exile 2 in the near term.
