SK Hynix P41 Platinum: Fast 2TB M.2 SSD Now More Affordable

Authore: EleanorUpdate:Apr 27,2025

Amazon has recently slashed the price of the 2TB SK Hynix P41 Platinum PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVME solid state drive (SSD) to just $129.99 with free shipping. This SK Hynix P41 Platinum is one of the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs on the market, equipped with a DRAM cache, and is significantly more affordable than similar SSDs like the Samsung 990 Pro, which costs $168, and the WD SN850X, priced at $154. This SSD is an excellent choice for enhancing your PlayStation 5 or gaming PC's performance.

Originally $149.99, now save 13% to get it for $129.99 at Amazon. Although SK Hynix may not be as well-known to consumers as brands like Samsung or Western Digital, it is a major force in the flash memory industry. As a South Korean company, SK Hynix is one of the world's largest memory chipmakers and semiconductor manufacturers. They supply components to many well-known brands such as Corsair and G.Skill.

The Platinum P41 is SK Hynix's top-tier SSD, offering impressive sustained read speeds of 7,000MB/s and write speeds of 6,500MB/s, along with random read speeds of 1.4 million IOPS and write speeds of 1.3 million IOPS. The presence of a dedicated DRAM cache sets the Platinum P41 apart from other SSDs at this price point, which typically use HMB or system memory. For reliability and stability, the Platinum P41 has undergone 1,000 hours of stress testing, with an MTBF of 1.5 million hours and a capacity to handle up to 1,200TB written. It features an in-house Aries controller and 176-layer TLC NAND flash chips, and comes with a 5-year warranty.

This is a great PS5 SSD, but you'll want to get a heatsink

The SK Hynix P41 Platinum is an outstanding choice as a secondary SSD for your PlayStation 5, surpassing Sony's minimum speed recommendation of 5,600MB/s. While it may function well without a heatsink, we recommend adding one for added safety. A slim PS5 heatsink is available for just $7, providing peace of mind.

Prefer Samsung? Then check out their Evo Plus model.

Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB PCIe Gen 4x4 M.2 SSD

Originally $184.99, now save 30% to get it for $129.99 at Amazon.

Samsung 990 Evo Plus 4TB PCIe Gen 4x4 M.2 SSD

Originally $349.99, now save 29% to get it for $249.99 at Amazon.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is another excellent SSD option for both gaming PCs and the PlayStation 5. It exceeds Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, with sequential speeds reaching up to 7,250MB/s read and 6,300MB/s write. Although it's not as fast as the 990 Pro, it's a significant upgrade over the standard 990 Evo. The key difference between the Evo Plus and the more expensive 990 Pro is the absence of DRAM in the Evo Plus, which uses HMB to compensate. This does not affect PS5 performance and is barely noticeable on gaming PCs.
