Smash-Inspired PlayStation Exclusive Reportedly in Development

Authore: EmilyUpdate:Feb 20,2025

A PlayStation studio, recently formed from former Bungie employees, is reportedly developing a MOBA titled "Gummy Bears." Initially conceived at Bungie, this project, codenamed "Gummy Bears," has undergone a significant shift, moving to a new PlayStation-owned studio.

This MOBA, rumored to be in development since at least 2022, is expected to deviate significantly from Bungie's previous work. Instead of traditional health bars, Gummy Bears will reportedly utilize a percentage-based damage system similar to Super Smash Bros., influencing knockback distance and potentially leading to characters being knocked off the map.

The game is described as having a "cozy, vibrant, and lo-fi" aesthetic, targeting a younger audience than Bungie's typical player base. It will feature three character classes (Attack, Defense, and Support) and multiple game modes. While the release date remains uncertain, the project's transition to a new studio suggests it's still in relatively early stages of development, potentially years from launch.

The shift to a new studio follows Bungie's 2023 layoffs and subsequent integration of employees into Sony Interactive Entertainment. The new studio, comprising approximately 40 employees, is believed to be located in Los Angeles. While details are scarce, the unique gameplay mechanics and target demographic suggest a fresh direction for PlayStation's first-party lineup.
