The Disney+ animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which follows Peter Parker's adventures during his first year of high school, has been renewed for both a Season 2 and Season 3. This exciting news comes from Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television, and animation, who shared insights during an interview with The Movie Podcast.
Despite the fact that Season 1 is set to premiere on January 29, Winderbaum revealed that the scripts for Season 2 are already complete, and half of the animated storyboards have been finished. He expressed his deep affection for the series, stating, "I've fallen so head over heels in love with these characters and I've now read all of the scripts for Season 2; we're halfway through the animatics." Winderbaum praised the work of lead writer and executive producer Jeff Trammell, noting the careful construction of the narrative that pays off significantly by the end of Season 1 and continues to deepen in the following seasons.
Winderbaum also mentioned an upcoming meeting with Trammell to discuss the pitch for Season 3, although he did not provide any specific release dates for either Season 2 or Season 3.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man focuses on Peter Parker as he navigates his first year of high school while gaining his superpowers. It remains to be seen whether the subsequent seasons will follow his journey through his second and third years, or if the series will continue to explore his freshman year experiences.
