In the latest wave of "here comes a new remake" news—or, if you're a bit more optimistic, "here comes another Stephen King movie" news—a brand new adaptation of Cujo is about to bare its teeth.
Netflix is set to produce a new film version of King's chilling tale, according to Deadline. Vertigo Entertainment founder and producer Roy Lee is on board to produce this project. However, it's still in its early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members attached yet.
Stephen King's novel, originally published in 1981, was swiftly adapted into a 1983 cult classic horror movie by Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, directed by Lewis Teague. The story centers on a dedicated mother, portrayed by Dee Wallace, who will stop at nothing to protect her young son from a rabid dog named Cujo. After being bitten by a rabid bat, Cujo transforms from a sweet pet into a relentless killer. The mother and son find themselves trapped in a car with a dead engine, fighting for survival against the heatstroke and Cujo's deadly stalking.

Cujo is just one of many beloved Stephen King stories that have successfully transitioned to the screen over the years. There's been a recent resurgence of King adaptations. Oz Perkins’ version of King’s short story "The Monkey" was released in February, and fans can look forward to Glen Powell's take on "The Running Man" and JT Mollner's adaptation of "The Long Walk," also produced by Roy Lee and Vertigo, later this year. Additionally, the IT prequel series "Welcome to Derry" is set to premiere on HBO. The Stephen King classic "Carrie," which became a horror movie icon, is being transformed into an eight-episode series on Prime Video, directed by horror visionary Mike Flanagan.
Stephen King fans have been enjoying a feast of adaptations lately, and with the upcoming Cujo remake, there's even more gourmet content on the way.
