Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure title Crimson Desert, has reportedly rejected a PlayStation exclusivity deal offered by Sony. This decision maintains the game's independent publishing path, a strategy Pearl Abyss believes will yield greater profitability.
The developer clarified its stance in a statement to Eurogamer, referencing a previous earnings call where their independent publishing plans were publicly announced. While appreciating ongoing business partnerships and collaborations, Pearl Abyss emphasized its commitment to self-publishing.
Currently, no official release date or definitive platform list has been confirmed for Crimson Desert. However, Pearl Abyss plans a public demonstration of a playable build at G-Star in November, following a media showcase in Paris this week. Speculation regarding a PS5 exclusive deal stemmed from a September investor meeting, where Sony's offer was revealed. Pearl Abyss ultimately chose self-publishing, deeming it the more lucrative option.
While a precise launch date remains unannounced, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox releases are anticipated around Q2 2025.
