Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist
The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating buzz for its striking resemblance to Hades, both aesthetically and in its core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a release date hasn't been officially announced (currently slated for Q1 2025), a free Steam demo allows players to experience the game's unique twist firsthand.
The game features a recurring dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades, viewed from a top-down perspective. This is reminiscent of Hades, but Rogue Loops adds a significant twist: ability upgrades come with distinct downsides. These downsides, or "curses," can significantly impact gameplay, potentially lasting the entire run, unlike the temporary effects of Hades' Chaos Gates. This mechanic promises a more strategic and challenging experience.
The narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players navigate five floors of dungeons, battling unique enemies and bosses. Each run unlocks procedurally generated upgrades, enabling players to craft diverse builds by strategically utilizing buffs and debuffs.
While a precise release date remains elusive, the Steam page indicates a launch in the first quarter of 2025. Until then, players can explore the first floor via the free demo. Other roguelikes like Dead Cells and Hades 2 offer compelling alternatives in the interim.
