Koikoi is an engaging game played with Hanafuda, the traditional Japanese playing cards. If you're eager to dive into this captivating card game, here's a straightforward guide on how to play Koikoi.
How to Play Koikoi
In Koikoi, players take turns discarding a card from their hand onto the table. When a card matches the month of another card already on the table, you can capture both cards. This action not only clears the table but also adds to your collection of cards.
To potentially end the round and score points, you'll need to form a 'yaku' or a special combination. A common yaku is a flush, where all your captured cards belong to the same month. At this point, you have a choice: you can either end the game and claim your points or choose to continue playing ('Koikoi') for a chance at higher scoring combinations. Remember, if you choose to continue and fail to form another yaku, you risk losing the points you could have secured earlier.
If neither player can score any points during a round, it's considered a 'no game,' and the round is nullified without any points awarded.
The game is played over 12 rounds, and the player with the highest total score at the end of these rounds is declared the winner.
Game Record Saving
Conveniently, Koikoi keeps track of your progress. The game records will be saved automatically, allowing you to pick up right where you left off in your next session.
