A new trailer for the upcoming TV series Alien: Earth has surfaced online, giving fans an exciting preview of what's to come. The trailer, initially unveiled at Disney's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, was shared on the @CineGeekNews X/Twitter account and showcases the harrowing plight of survivors aboard a spaceship ravaged by a Xenomorph, now on a collision course with Earth.
The trailer provides a detailed look at the new Xenomorph design and captures an aesthetic strikingly similar to Ridley Scott's 1979 horror classic. It features scenes inside a MU/TH/UR control room that mirrors the Nostromo's from the original Alien film. In one tense moment, a crew member frantically seeks help while being pursued by the Xenomorph, while Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, coldly reports that the "specimens are loose" and sets the ship's impact point to Earth. The trailer then shifts to show six soldiers advancing towards what appears to be the crashed ship, hinting at ominous outcomes.
The trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there any other surviving crew members, and has anyone been impregnated by the Xenomorph? How will the soldiers meet their fate? These questions set the stage for Alien: Earth, which follows a mysterious vessel crashing on Earth, leading a young woman (played by Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to uncover a deadly threat.
Set in 2120, Alien: Earth is positioned within the Alien timeline just after Prometheus and two years before the events of the original Alien. This timeline placement has led fans to speculate that the series might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or how Weyland-Yutani first learned about the Xenomorphs. As a point of reference, the recently released interquel Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.
Showrunner Noah Hawley, in an interview last January, explained his decision to diverge from the backstory established in Prometheus. He expressed a preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films and, after discussions with Ridley Scott, chose to focus on the lore of the initial movies rather than the bioweapon narrative from the prequels.
Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is currently in development, promising more thrilling additions to the Alien franchise.
