Avowed: Exploring Multiplayer Capabilities

Authore: JacobUpdate:Feb 25,2025

Avowed: A Solo Fantasy Adventure – No Multiplayer in Sight

Avowed has been compared to both Skyrim and Obsidian's own The Outer Worlds, but one key difference sets it apart: it's a strictly single-player experience. Despite initial plans, Avowed does not feature multiplayer capabilities, eliminating any hopes for co-op or PvP modes. While you'll encounter companions, they remain non-playable characters (NPCs), mirroring the structure of The Outer Worlds. Enemy encounters are also solely AI-controlled, ruling out any player-versus-player combat or unexpected invasions.

The Absence of Multiplayer: A Development Decision

Obsidian Entertainment initially envisioned Avowed with co-op functionality, even using it as a marketing tool to attract investors. However, during development, the decision was made to drop multiplayer, citing a desire to focus resources elsewhere. While this might disappoint some players, the resulting single-player experience remains the focus.

No Co-op Mod (Yet)

Currently, there are no publicly known plans for a community-created co-op mod for Avowed. While the possibility exists, creating such a mod is a significant undertaking. Even Skyrim's popular co-op mod arrived years after its release. Obsidian has also confirmed they have no intention of adding multiplayer post-launch.

In short: Avowed is a solo adventure. No multiplayer, co-op, or PvP is available, now or in the future.
