Classic Spy Game Codenames Now Available for Android

For word game enthusiasts, Codenames needs no introduction. This popular spy-themed board game is now available as a mobile app, published by CGE Digital (the original board game was created by Vlaada Chvátil).

What is Codenames?

Codenames is a team-based word association game. Teams compete to identify their secret agents hidden behind code names, using one-word clues provided by their spymaster. The challenge lies in correctly identifying your agents while avoiding civilian bystanders and, crucially, the assassin.

This digital version features new words, game modes, and unlockable achievements, including a career mode with leveling, rewards, and special gadgets. Asynchronous multiplayer allows players up to 24 hours per turn, enabling simultaneous participation in multiple games and daily solo challenges. Global competition is also available.

It's Still a Game of Deduction!

Gameplay involves tapping cards on a grid to reveal your agents. Correct guesses reveal agent identities; selecting the assassin results in an immediate loss. Managing multiple games adds complexity, but also enhances the challenge. Advanced players eventually unlock the spymaster role, responsible for providing the crucial one-word clues.

Ready to test your spy skills and word association prowess? Download Codenames from the Google Play Store for $4.99.
