An Elden Ring player, chickensandwich420, is undertaking a unique challenge: defeating the notoriously difficult boss, Messmer the Impaler, every day until the release of the upcoming spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign. This self-imposed marathon began on December 16, 2024, and involves using a different weapon each time, achieving a flawless victory (no hits taken) on NG+7.
Initially planning to tackle various FromSoftware bosses, chickensandwich420 opted for the daily Messmer challenge due to university commitments. Messmer, from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is known for his extreme difficulty, often requiring numerous attempts even for highly skilled players. This makes chickensandwich420's challenge exceptionally demanding.
The challenge includes a self-imposed deadline: if Nightreign doesn't launch by June 2025, he will switch to other games. This sets a limit of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone co-op title set within the Elden Ring universe. While a 2025 release is anticipated, FromSoftware's history suggests potential delays. The success of chickensandwich420's impressive feat hinges on Nightreign's timely arrival.
