In June 2022, Microsoft featured Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all showcased games would be playable within the next 12 months. This led to expectations that the highly anticipated sequel would be released within that timeframe.
However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, pushing Hollow Knight: Silksong's release past the first half of 2023. They promised more details as the game neared completion. At that time, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, stated, “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”
As the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight from 2017, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. IGN's review of Hollow Knight praised it, saying, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
