Minecraft Live 2025 has concluded, and Mojang has unveiled an exciting lineup of new updates and content for the iconic game. The year's first game drop, named "Spring to Life," is set to launch on March 25, bringing a host of enhancements to the Overworld. These updates aim to make biomes feel more immersive and alive, introducing new variants for cows, pigs, and chickens, as well as captivating ambient features like the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and the whispers of sand.
The second game drop of the year, currently unnamed, will introduce the innovative Dried Ghast block. This block, slightly smaller than a regular block and adorned with cute tentacles and a grumpy face, can be rehydrated to transform into a Ghastling, a baby ghast. With care, the Ghastling can grow into the Happy Ghast mob variant. Players can craft a Ghast harness to ride the Happy Ghast, allowing up to four players to soar through the skies together. A new Locator Bar feature will also be added to help players find their friends while flying. Mojang highlighted the Happy Ghast's utility in Survival Mode, likening it to Creative Mode due to its ability to position players freely in the sky.
Mojang also announced a significant visual upgrade for Minecraft titled "Vibrant Visuals." This update, described as the first step towards a transformative visual experience, will not affect gameplay but enhance the game's aesthetics. For more details on Vibrant Visuals, check out IGN's dedicated article and their visuals comparison video.
In addition to game updates, Mojang shared an exclusive clip from the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a movie-themed in-game live event starting on March 25. This event, set in Midport Village, invites players to join Steve and his companions from the movie in a dynamic multiplayer experience. Participants will defend the village from a piglin attack across three mini-games, running from March 25 to April 7. Completing all challenges during the event will reward players with the coveted Yearn cape.
During our visit to Mojang's offices in Sweden, we learned more about their stance on future developments. Mojang has confirmed they will not be creating a Minecraft 2, nor will they make the game free-to-play or utilize generative AI in its development.
