Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, renowned for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key details about Nintendo's next-gen console. The model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions and features.

Key features showcased include a larger form factor (approaching the Steam Deck's size), magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism involving pins and magnets for secure attachment.

Magnetic Joy-Con and Optical Sensors:

Tsai highlighted the magnetic SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Con, facilitated by a pin release mechanism. Interestingly, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, suggesting potential functionality as mouse-like peripherals with a yet-to-be-released accessory. Recently leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.

Compatibility and Dimensions:

While the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit into the existing Switch dock, design differences prevent compatibility. The mockup exhibited indentations that would obstruct proper connection. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery, even to Genki.
