Unlocking Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

Increasing pet friendship

Initially, Stardew Valley allowed only one pet per save. However, the 1.6 update changed this, enabling multiple pet adoptions. To unlock this feature, you must cultivate a maximum friendship level with your existing pet.

Daily care is crucial: ensure your pet's bowl is full using your Watering Can (excluding rainy/snowy days). Also, pet your companion daily; a heart bubble signifies a successful interaction. Monitor their friendship level in the "Animals" tab of the pause menu.

Once the friendship meter is full, Marnie will send a letter informing you about adopting additional pets from her shop. If you didn't adopt a pet in your first year, the letter arrives at the start of Year 2.

Visit Robin's shop to commission Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These serve as your pets' homes and prevent friendship decline. Neglecting them can lead to pets running away.

Optional decorative items like Doghouses and Cat Trees are available at Marnie's Ranch. These don't affect friendship levels.
