Silent Hill f The First In Konami's Horror Series to Get an 18+ Rating In Japan

Authore: IsaacUpdate:Mar 21,2025

Silent Hill f marks a significant milestone for the franchise: it's the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating in Japan. The Japanese-language reveal trailer, unveiled recently, confirmed mature ratings across various regions: Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. While the game is still under development, and ratings are subject to change, this is a notable departure from previous entries. Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all received a CERO:C rating (15+ in Japan), with other international titles typically earning CERO:C or CERO:D (17+). Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake, despite its mature Western ratings, only secured a CERO:C rating in Japan.

PlayKonami's recent Silent Hill Transmission focused entirely on Silent Hill f, the first mainline entry in thirteen years. Initially announced in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan, where they follow Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures. The compelling narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, the creator of the acclaimed When They Cry visual novel series.

The reveal trailer offers glimpses of Hinako's harrowing journey, showcasing scenes of distress, injury, and a torn uniform. While gameplay was limited, the trailer provided a substantial look at the game's atmosphere, monster designs, and a potentially unique Otherworld, characterized by blood-red flowers rather than the series' typical rusty aesthetic.

Currently, there's no release date for Silent Hill f, and no further updates were provided regarding No Code's Silent Hill Townfall.
