Hazelight Games' latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has continued its impressive launch by selling 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, this dual-protagonist sci-fi story has quickly cemented itself as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
The game's sales momentum was evident from the start, with Hazelight reporting that 1 million copies were sold within the first 48 hours of its release. This means an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, showcasing the game's rapid growth in popularity.
As a cooperative game, Split Fiction likely has engaged many more players than the number of copies sold, thanks to its innovative Friend’s Pass feature. This feature allows one player to buy the game and invite a friend to play for free, significantly expanding its reach within the gaming community. With the buzz around Split Fiction continuing to grow on social media, the number of units sold is expected to climb even higher.
Hazelight's previous title, the 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory. It sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its March 2021 launch, eventually reaching 10 million by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's Split Fiction review, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," highlighting its dynamic and engaging gameplay.
