Veilguard Fans Celebrate No DRM DecisionBut No Preload for PC Gamers
"Veilguard will not use Denuvo on PC. We trust you," Dragon Age: The Veilguard project director Michael Gamble
shared today on Twitter (X). For context, digital rights management (DRM), like Denuvo, is anti-piracy software favored by major game publishers like EA, but it's unpopular with players, especially PC gamers, as it often causes performance problems. Since DRM is frequently linked to performance issues, players are pleased with BioWare's decision. "I support this. I will buy your game at launch. Thank you," one user replied to Michael Gamble.
Veilguard also confirms that you won't need to be online constantly to play, as Gamble stated in a reply to another user. However, the no-DRM benefit has a drawback: BioWare confirmed that "no DRM means no preload for PC players." This disappoints some players, as Veilguard needs at least 100GB of storage. Console players are unaffected and can preload Veilguard. Xbox players with early access can install now; PlayStation early access players must wait until October 29.
