Application Description

Investigating vehicle collisions requires thorough data collection. The CrashScan app, used with an OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth adapter, allows investigators to access and interpret data from a vehicle's Event Data Recorder (EDR), often called a "black box," where supported. This data helps validate insurance claims and provides crucial insights into liability.

Vehicle Support (EDR & Full System Diagnostic Scan)

CrashScan supports over 3000 vehicle year/make/model combinations internationally. Check compatibility here: https://collisionsciences.ca/reports/check_support/

Contextual Accident Reports

Successful CrashScan reports detail impact severity, orientation (front, rear, side), and provide contextual information including:

  • Accident severity (minor, moderate, severe)
  • EDR trigger thresholds
  • 5 seconds of pre-crash data: speed, brake/accelerator pedal use, steering
  • Occupant count and seatbelt status
  • Estimated repair cost
  • Likelihood of structural crush damage
  • Injury risk thresholds (whiplash, injury duration)
  • G-force context compared to daily activities

*Injury risk algorithms utilize stored acceleration values, scientific articles, and databases like the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS).

Privacy Legislation Status (EDR Data)

United States: The Driver Privacy Act of 2015 and seventeen state statutes (Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington) regulate EDR data access, typically requiring owner/policyholder consent with exceptions.

End-User Consent

Downloading the CrashScan app constitutes consent to its installation, updates, and data collection practices as outlined in our privacy statement. You can withdraw consent by uninstalling the app. Contact us at CollisionSciences.ca for more information.
