Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed war survival game, This War of Mine. The new trailer reflects on the studio's iconic past while showcasing the distinct narrative of The Alters.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim and hopeless atmosphere depicting the realities of war, The Alters offers a more vibrant, often humorous, story centered around the struggles of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite their tonal differences, the developers highlight a strong thematic link between the two titles.
Both games share a core theme of survival, albeit expressed in vastly different contexts. In This War of Mine, players grapple with the harsh realities of a war-torn city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their civilian group alive. In contrast, The Alters presents survival as a desperate race against time, requiring players to constantly relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless, world-destroying sun.
Both games challenge players to confront hostile environments and scarce resources. However, a key distinction lies in the playable characters: This War of Mine guides a group of randomly generated civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique team of alternate versions of the main protagonist.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
