Firaxis Games is bringing the recently released Civilization VII to virtual reality.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, the franchise's first VR title, will launch exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets in Spring 2025. Developed by PlaySide Studios (known for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds), this immersive experience reimagines the classic 4X strategy gameplay.

The game features a unique "Command Table" interface, allowing players to view the game world from various perspectives, examining details up close or surveying the broader landscape. Players will interact directly with world leaders, forging alliances or engaging in conflict across the ages.

Civilization VII - VR offers both immersive VR and mixed reality modes, seamlessly switching between them. The VR experience places players within a museum setting, while mixed reality adapts the Command Table to the player's physical space. A dedicated "Archives" room displays gameplay achievements in both modes. Online multiplayer supports up to four players.

The PC and console versions of Civilization VII, currently available via early access, have received mixed player feedback, citing UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features. Firaxis has acknowledged this criticism, promising improvements including UI enhancements, cooperative multiplayer teams, and expanded map options.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, while acknowledging negative reviews, expressed confidence in the game's long-term success, stating that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game more with continued play. He described the game's initial performance as "very encouraging."
