At the start of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll choose from three classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. This guide helps you decide which best suits your playstyle.
Which Citizen Sleeper 2 Class Should You Choose?
The ideal class depends on your preferred gameplay. Having completed the game, here's my assessment of each, considering their abilities and roleplaying potential.
Operator
Operators begin with a +1 in Interface, base levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer. They cannot increase Endure. Their ability lets them gain Stress to re-roll their lowest die.
While powerful later, Operators struggle early on. Interface is a strong skill, but the early game difficulty might be challenging. The re-roll ability isn't always beneficial, as you could still get a poor roll. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator is versatile, fitting various character concepts.
Machinist
Machinists start with a +1 in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. They cannot increase Engage. Their ability trades Stress for +2 to their lowest die, also losing 2 Stress on a positive outcome. Later, they can further boost their die and reduce Stress.
My personal favorite, the Machinist proved invaluable during my first playthrough. The ability is highly useful for overcoming tough situations. Many checks involve Engineer and Interface, areas where crew support often falls short. The initial Stress reduction is also fantastic, as Stress management is crucial. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players interested in the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor
Extractors begin with a +1 in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. They cannot increase Intuit. Their ability uses Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, upgradable later to further boost crew member rolls.
The Extractor's ability is excellent for mitigating Contract risks. The game heavily features Endure checks, making the starting bonus highly beneficial. However, I often found myself with ample crew members skilled in Endure and Engage. Roleplaying-wise, this class is ideal for players who prefer a more rugged, forceful character.
