Image Comics provides the following synopsis:
In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact occurred over a century ago following a natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to protect our world. However, a recent catastrophic event in Montana has destabilized this fragile peace, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must now confront this escalating threat.
Pires states, "I'm thrilled to return to Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the immersive world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with." He cites Final Fantasy’s influence, specifically Tetsuya Nomura's character designs, as inspiration for the protagonist's appearance. He also acknowledges the subtle homage to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey.
