Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind Grand Theft Auto VI, is increasingly confident in a Fall 2025 release window. This confidence is bolstered by the company's strong overall performance and the success of other titles in their portfolio.
Take-Two Interactive Poised for a Record Year
GTA 6: Still Aiming for Fall 2025
During their Q3 2025 earnings call on February 7th, Take-Two Interactive reaffirmed their target of a Fall 2025 release for Grand Theft Auto VI. While CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the inherent risk of delays in game development ("there's always a risk of slippage"), he expressed strong optimism, stating they "feel really good about it." He emphasized Rockstar's dedication to quality, highlighting their commitment to perfection and the intense competitive landscape.
Take-Two Interactive's 2025 Lineup
Zelnick highlighted 2025 as a pivotal year for Take-Two, citing several major releases. These include the Early Access launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII (with full release February 11th), Mafia: The Old Country (Summer release), Grand Theft Auto VI (Fall release), and Borderlands 4 (before year-end). He expressed considerable optimism about the commercial success of these titles, projecting a transformative impact on the company and the industry. Take-Two projects record-breaking net bookings for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
Continued Success of Existing Franchises
The Grand Theft Auto franchise continues to dominate, with GTA V surpassing 210 million units sold worldwide. GTA Online also saw significant success, particularly with the "Agents of Sabotage" holiday update and continued growth of the GTA+ membership program (10% year-over-year increase).
Other key titles also performed strongly. NBA 2K25 sold over 7 million units, showcasing increased player engagement (over 30% increase in recurrent consumer spending, nearly 20% increase in daily active users, and nearly 10% increase in monthly active users). Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to expand its reach, exceeding 70 million units sold and experiencing record concurrent players on Steam (99,993 according to SteamDB), driven by ongoing updates to Red Dead Online.
Dispelling Rumors about GTA V's Trevor
Addressing persistent rumors, Steven Ogg, the actor who portrayed Trevor in GTA V, clarified in an interview on the Inside You podcast that he does not hate his character. He simply prefers not to be called by the character's name outside of work. He affirmed his positive experience and friendship with the other actors from the game. While he previously speculated about Trevor's potential appearance (and death) in GTA VI, he confirmed he hasn't been involved in any recording for the upcoming title.
While a specific release date remains unannounced, GTA VI is currently slated for a Fall 2025 launch. Stay tuned for further updates.
