The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. This article explores the reasons behind this decision and looks ahead to the game's future.
Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Scene (Yet)
No Immediate Competitive Plans
In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they are always exploring new titles for competitive play, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the roadmap. He humorously referenced Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title not currently considered for competitive events, before clarifying that there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket at this time.
Early Stages and Balancing Concerns
While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old, with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balance issues. Although Pokémon TCG Pocket includes competitive features, players have voiced concerns about balancing. The game's simplified mechanics, designed for a more accessible, beginner-friendly experience, may also contribute to its exclusion from the competitive scene.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite in the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
