GTA 6 on PC: Not Confirmed Yet, But Take-Two Shows Interest

Although Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has not been officially announced for PC, there are strong indications that a PC release might be on the horizon. In a recent interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, provided insights into the company's platform strategy.

Zelnick highlighted that their upcoming title Civilization 7 will launch simultaneously on consoles and PC. However, he noted that for other games, including those from Rockstar, the approach is to release on certain platforms first before expanding to others. He mentioned, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

Looking at past releases, GTA 5 was initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.

While GTA 6's PC release remains unconfirmed, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong likelihood of the game eventually coming to PC. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous PC launch with consoles, given the game's anticipated scale, but historical patterns suggest otherwise.

Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success

During the interview, Zelnick emphasized the growing significance of the PC platform for their games. He noted that PC versions of multiplatform titles can account for up to 40% of total sales. He remarked, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes that major titles like GTA 6 can boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. He stated, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."

Zelnick further added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. Stay updated on the latest news by visiting our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.

In the recent Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed interest in expanding their game portfolio to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He stated, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."

Zelnick acknowledged that while Nintendo's focus was traditionally on younger audiences, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 set to release on the Switch, Zelnick added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
