During Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate between Omni-Man and Homelander, ensuring they offer unique gameplay experiences. In an interview with IGN, Boon addressed fans' concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between these two powerful characters, reassuring players that the developers at NetherRealm Studios are committed to crafting distinct identities for each.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
Boon emphasized the creative freedom the team has been given to explore various ideas for these characters. However, he made it clear that they are steering away from duplicating abilities, especially those reminiscent of Superman. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated, highlighting their intent to avoid redundancy.
Furthermore, Boon discussed how the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to design their Fatalities. He stressed that the core movesets of Homelander and Omni-Man will significantly differentiate them, countering the assumption that they might end up being similar characters. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon explained.
