Hyper Light Breaker boasts a diverse arsenal of weapons, crucial for crafting the perfect build. Starting with basic loadouts, players can enhance their gameplay by discovering equipment that aligns with their preferred playstyles as they progress through the game. Integrating elements from both roguelikes and extraction games, Hyper Light Breaker offers a unique twist on weapon acquisition and usage. Here's your comprehensive guide to obtaining new weapons in Hyper Light Breaker.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
The primary method for acquiring new gear involves exploring Overgrowths. While you'll naturally stumble upon new items during your runs, if you're specifically after weapons, target the sword or pistol icons marked on the map. These icons denote the locations of Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades are your melee weapons, each offering unique movesets and special abilities. Rails, on the other hand, are your ranged weapons, distinguished by their varied functionalities. Both types of weapons are available in different rarities, with gold being the pinnacle of rarity. In line with the mechanics of loot-based games, the rarer the weapon, the superior its stats.
When you find a weapon in the Overgrowth, you have the option to send it to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button instead of Equipping it immediately. This allows you to equip these weapons for your next run by adjusting your loadout before you set out again.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
In addition to acquiring new Breakers during your adventures, you can also purchase new starting gear from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, you'll only have access to the Blades merchant. To unlock the Rails merchant, you must gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Keep in mind that merchants have a limited stock, but their inventory refreshes over time. If you don't find anything appealing during your first visit, make sure to check back later to see what new items are available.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your weapons, you can upgrade them at the merchants located in the Outpost. However, you must first unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource found through exploration or by resetting cycles. Given their rarity, it's crucial to use Golden Rations judiciously.
Be aware that if you die, all equipped gear will suffer a durability loss equivalent to one pip, indicated by the bar beneath their icons. Continuous deaths will eventually lead to the gear breaking.
