Thailand may be a world away from Hogwarts, but that hasn't stopped Jason Isaacs, star of The White Lotus Season 3, from weighing in on who should step into his former role as Lucius Malfoy in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter TV series. In a recent interview with Variety, Isaacs humorously suggested Meryl Streep for the part. "She can do anything, that woman. There's literally no limit to what she can do," he enthused. Streep's versatility is well-documented; she has previously portrayed male characters, including an elderly rabbi in the HBO miniseries Angels in America. Given her track record, Streep could indeed bring a unique flair to the role of Lucius Malfoy.
Isaacs first portrayed Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, reprising the role in subsequent films up to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. As for the new adaptation, John Lithgow has been confirmed to play Albus Dumbledore, a role previously filled by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon. Rumors also swirl around potential casting for other key characters: Black Mirror's Paapa Essiedu is reportedly close to being cast as Severus Snape, originally played by Alan Rickman, and Jessica Jones' Janet McTeer is said to be in talks for the role of Minerva McGonagall, originally portrayed by Maggie Smith. However, these castings have not yet been officially confirmed.
