The popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is currently enjoying significant success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has explicitly stated that the game will not be available on the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. The question on everyone's mind is whether the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 might change this scenario.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. Excitingly for Nintendo enthusiasts, it seems a Switch 2 release could be on the horizon. Wu explained, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, promising to be a more powerful iteration of the beloved console. Although specifics on its capabilities are still under wraps, it's evident that the new system will be an enhanced version of the original. One intriguing feature is the possibility of a mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it feel more akin to a PC gaming experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature remains to be seen.As of now, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, but fans can look forward to a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2 for more information. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is available on other platforms and has received high praise. In our 8/10 review, we highlighted its potential to become a leading hero shooter, stating, "it may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can also anticipate the addition of new heroes, The Human Torch and The Thing, set to join the game on February 21.
