Rumors are swirling that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its last stand. According to AusilMV, a well-known insider for game leaks, a reliable source has indicated that the upcoming season is a critical effort to revive the game's fortunes. While it's still just a rumor, the situation appears dire.
When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it enjoyed explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, leading Warner Bros. Games to shutter the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.
Scheduled to start in early February, Season 5 represents what might be the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. This relaunch of MultiVersus is significant, yet the developers have chosen to categorize the original 2022 release as a "beta." Although the game was warmly received at launch, the decision to temporarily close it down in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed.
