Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Returns to Esports World Cup 2025
Following the apparent success of the Esports World Cup 2024, several game publishers have announced their return for the 2025 edition. Moonton's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is the latest to confirm its participation, joining Garena's Free Fire.
The 2024 tournament featured two Mobile Legends: Bang Bang events: the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and the MLBB Women's Invitational. These events brought together teams from around the globe to compete in Riyadh. Selangor Red Giants emerged victorious in the MSC, while Smart Omega Empress defeated Team Vitality (holders of a 25-game winning streak since 2021) to claim the Women's Invitational title.
A Strong Showing, But Is It Enough?
Most games from the 2024 Esports World Cup are returning in 2025. However, a noticeable trend is the inclusion of primarily mid-tier or secondary competitions rather than flagship events. The presence of the MLBB Mid Season Cup, for instance, might suggest the Esports World Cup is viewed as a supplementary event rather than the main attraction.
This has a dual interpretation: positively, it avoids overshadowing existing leagues; negatively, it risks being perceived as secondary to major tournaments.
