DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed

Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn unveiled a first look at Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

The image, shared on Bluesky, shows Alcock seated in her director's chair. Gunn's accompanying post expressed excitement about the project, confirming Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, a fact previously reported last April.

Plot details remain scarce, but the film will closely adapt Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel garnered a 2022 Eisner Award nomination for "Best Limited Series" and is recommended viewing for fans unfamiliar with the source material.

Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further additions to the ensemble cast are David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the rebooted DC universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the newly established DC Universe. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (with uncertain ties to Gunn's cinematic universe) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
