A Glimpse into a Lost Iron Man Game
Following the release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge, Edwards began work on the project, tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's original comic book name. He shared title card images, gameplay screenshots, and original Xbox gameplay footage showcasing the game's desert-set tutorial.
Activision's Decision to Cancel
Despite fan enthusiasm, Activision shelved "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never officially explained the cancellation, Edwards offered several possibilities: delays in the Iron Man film, dissatisfaction with the game's progress, or perhaps another developer's competing project.
A Unique Iron Man Design
The game's Iron Man design, noticeably different from Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal, closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version of the early 2000s. Edwards confirmed the design was the artist's decision, leaving the reasoning behind it a mystery. He promised more gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this remains unreleased.
