Inspired by the legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Tides of Annihilation casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman fighting alongside ghostly knights to save her family and a shattered world. The game unfolds in a devastated, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly invasion. Players will battle hordes of enemies swarming the streets, facing colossal knight-like creatures roaming the city. Confrontations involve intense, close-quarters combat, requiring players to climb onto these massive foes to engage them directly.
While visually stunning, the game's familiar Arthurian storyline presents a challenge. Recent successful soulslike games have cleverly adapted lesser-known stories, such as Journey to the West and the reimagining of Pinocchio in Lies of P, offering fresh perspectives. In contrast, the well-trodden Arthurian legend, while beautifully presented in Tides of Annihilation, lacks the unique narrative hook that could elevate it beyond its impressive visuals.
