Taking a break from the usual buzz of tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, let's dive into something lighter and more amusing for your Friday. IGN had the chance to play Mario Kart World at a Nintendo event in New York this week, and they've confirmed a delightful detail: the new Moo Moo Meadows Cow character can indeed indulge in burgers, steak, and a variety of other foods. Yes, you read that right!
For those not in the loop, Mario Kart World recently introduced the Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a playable racer, much to the delight of fans. This once-background character from a single Mario Kart track has now taken center stage, sparking a wave of memes and fanart across the internet.
However, with the excitement came a quirky concern. In the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer, Mario was seen enjoying a burger. Given that burgers are typically made from beef, fans wondered if Cow, whose species might be a source of beef, would partake in eating beef herself. The curiosity was real.
Imagine if the cow gets a transformation costume.

At the Nintendo preview event, the mystery was solved. The food items seen in the trailer are available at Yoshi's diner locations scattered throughout the courses. These diners operate like drive-thrus, allowing racers to grab a bag of take-out, similar to picking up an item box. The variety of food inside these bags includes burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts. And yes, Cow can enjoy them all.

During our session, we observed Cow consuming various items, including the burger in question. It's still unclear what these foods do for Cow, as other racers change costumes upon consuming them, but Cow doesn't seem to undergo any transformations. Is she simply enjoying the taste of beef? Could there be a hidden power-up from burger consumption that Nintendo hasn't revealed yet? Or are these perhaps veggie burgers and Beyond meat kebabs?
IGN reached out to Nintendo to clarify these burning questions, but we haven't received a response yet. We're guessing they're preoccupied with their New York event and not avoiding our, uh, slightly offbeat inquiry. Probably.
In the meantime, don't miss our preview of Mario Kart World, where you can catch a glimpse of our new friend, Cow, in action.
